The Guardians, part 1
The Guardians
Part 1
This story is dedicated to everyone, who believes in their abilities and themselves
I was sitting on my bed in my recently refurbished apartment, trying to accomplish the next stage of my heliokinesis training- a solar ball. My long endeavours with this technique was starting to pay off; my hands were getting extremely hot and my vision started to pick up small dispersions of light from the space between my hands. I have already mastered six kinetic powers; geokinesis, electrokinesis, aerokinesis, Biokinesis, photokinesis and chronokinesis, doing this should be easy for me but it wasn't in reality- since the sun was a large energy and really difficult to control. All my thoughts were just mere fragments in my mind but the only solid thought was the sun, a large sphere of hydrogen gas giving off blazing, raging flames which made its entire structure. It's immense heat, light; my hands at this point were now burning and was encased in raging flames. In the middle- a solar ball.
Suddenly the door slowly opened and in walked calmly a guy with an athletic build, blond hair, emerald green eyes and holding a cell phone his hand; gazing at the 'mystical' white light on the screen accompanied with what appeared to be a cheeky smirk embedded on his face. I lost concentration and in panic, swiftly put my hands on the bed. 'Hi Blake, what's up.' I said in a surprised, confident tone. 'Oh hi Ryan, nothin really just texting my mate. Oh by the way brought ur Chinese takeaway for you.' 'So what are u doin.' He said trying to push the conversation away from the factor of his text messaging. 'Err...nothin really, just chillin.' 'Do you wanna play Mortal Kombat, just got it from the store.' 'Sure.' I said try to hide my ecstatic ego from making a solar ball take over me.' He put his cell in his pocket and calmly placed the takeaway on the nearby table. 'So what are u waiting for new year's.' I rushed over to the couch, grabbed the back of it and fell back onto it's comfortable leather exterior.
He turned on the TV then his PS3, handed over my controller and threw his on the couch and went to the kitchen, grabbed two cans of coca cola from the fridge and walked over to the couch and sat down beside me. 'Ready.' I said with a smirk on my face. 'Ready.' He said putting down his opened coke can on the table and throwing mine to me which caught and placed on the table in front of me. We were now at the character selection screen. I chose sub-zero because I was fond of his cyrokinetic powers and Blake chose Ermac with his advanced telekinesis abilities. Little did he know that these abilities can be performed in reality.
The tournament had begun and a smile struck my face. ShadowWing vs Dr Blake...
Before we got into a blood-chilling tournament. We both referred to the character moves screen. This is where my biokinetic induced powers came in use. I can always use 65% of my brain, which made focusing on a particular thing along with memorising stuff; extremely easy. I just scrolled down and quickly took a glance at each move. I smirked. New moves were added to Sub-Zero’s character moves list: my ego was now at its highest. I retreated off the screen and casually handed control to Blake. “You went through the list quickly.” He said while going onto the character moves screen for his character. “I guess, I will have to leave it down to luck.” I replied in a confident manner, “your loss.” He carefully went through the moves list, analysing each one and the combinations to perform them. I could sense his ego sharply peaking but I was hardly worried about this. The feeling of worry was barricaded by this energy which was given out by my heart chakra. I felt it strongly throughout my body. Sublime ecstasy, complete bliss almost. As if it laced my veins bounding my entire body with complete happiness and excitement, engulfing all other feelings seeking refuge in my body. After 3 minutes of using his careful analytical skills; he closed the screen and we began the tournament. Cryokinesis vs telekinesis.
I went for the first devastating blow without hesitation ; executing a powerful combo which ended in Ermac’s body impaled by sharp, glistening icicles. Now his health was reduced by half. “Now it’s my turn>” At this point he was grasping his controller tightly and appeared now to be determined, focused and perseverant: a side of Blake which I hardly saw, he mostly played the role of the jester-making hilarious comments during our lectures and asking even more amusing questions. I turned my attention back to the screen, where Blake performed a quite advanced combo, ending with a telekinetic punch. I countered his attempts to redeem his dignity and lowered his health gauge to its last quarter.
Blake got irritated after a while of my professional game-play. He now began to get extremely competitive and quite envious; pulling off every move and combo he knows for this character-telekinetic throw, telekinetic ground slam, telekinetic wall and a new entry-telekinetic spin: This is basically Ermac using his telekinesis abilities to spin my character high up into the air at high speed and slam me back to the ground. I felt quite a bit sympathy for him, so I backed out of my professional game-play sometimes and let him score some successful hits on my character-slowly allowing him to regenerate his ego as well as his dignity. Tedious, I decided to end this constant war against emotions and ego and just finishing him off without mercy. I stared at the screen and so did Blake, who was at this point trying to search for a gap in my current strategy and strike with multiple combos when he does. I struck at this moment and landed successfully, a destructive combo emptying his health gauge and also his struggling moral. He just slowly turned his head in my direction and started gazing at me. I can he tell he was quite infuriated. “You’ve got a lot of luck.” He said while picking up the takeaway and placing it on the oak table in front of us. I just gave him a innocent smile and diverted my attention back to the screen. Placing my trust solely on my conscience...
I decided not to end the tournament subtly but end it gracefully. My mind was fixated on what i was about to do. I pressed a quite long series of buttons on my controller. At this point Blake also turned and stared at his avatar of hope and dignity meet a bloody end. I had completed the combination at this point. The screen darkened and the refurbished Sub-Zero performed a deadly fatality. My character executed a devastating combo involving grapples, kicks, punches and shifting through his three fighting styles, with the added concept of x-ray imaging we could see the ending sequence through a medical perspective: most of the vital organs and arteries were seriously damaged and ruptured also most of the bones were either fractured or broken including the mandible, cranium and vertebral column as a addition to this nearly all of Ermac’s ligaments and tendons were completely severed. This was quite sickening to watch whilst being funny; draining Blake’s ego to nothing. As a grand-finale Sub-Zero exhaled a long stream of white smoke which Ermac inhaled-resulting in his body slowly freezing from the inside and sharp, solid icicles impaling him from the inside. Blake turned his head to me “Nice, to see u showing off.2 He commented sarcastically with what appeared to be a smirk drowned in envy.
“Why, thank you.” I replied. “So how did you manage to pull off that fatality.” I grinned “probably luck” correction: a lot of luck. I laughed. I was actually quite surprised to see that Blake didn’t take my efforts to lower his dignity, hope and ego to it’s lowest point so seriously, as that was one of his traits. “Let’s see if your luck can last another game.” I just smiled knowingly as it wasn’t luck but psionics.
We revisited the character selection screen. I was about to Sub-Zero again when Blake voice entered my mind through my ear. “I’ve noticed ur really fond with Sub-Zero, do u mind picking another character to give me a better chance of winning.” “Okay.” I replied understandingly. Instead of choosing Sub-Zero Blake did, as he saw me controlling him-inferred that his moves and combos are fairly easy to pull off. Therefore assumed he could beat me with my own character, if just merely grinned. People cannot better themselves by following another person path or adapting it to your own lifestyle but to find your own path and adapting your choices/decisions in the present around your past. I just chose the character with my dominant power.
We were now at the character moves screen again. Playing the gentleman, I let Blake go first; as his careful analytical skills postponed the tournament at least 10 minutes. To save time- this was the best option. While i was waiting for his session to finish. I reached into the plastic bag and uncovered a medium portion of chicken chow mein sealed in a eye-catching but original cardboard box assembled to suit its purpose, in the middle there was a black Chinese dragon accompanied by traditional Chinese writing underneath it. I grabbed the plastic fork; I felt the rough texture of the fork as it has been poorly manufactured. Putting the fork into the contents of the box, I started to devour it rapidly. After finishing within a couple of minutes, I opened my can of coke and drank the entirety of it like the darkness of night absorbing the light of day.
By this time Blake had finally finished analysing the combinations to Sub-Zero’s moves- the time now being 7:30pm. I had control over the game no. Briefly scanning through the moves, I logged off. Ready to start the tournament, I turned my head to a reformed Blake who just started eating his dish of chicken chow mein. “Let’s see if luck can last u a second time.” Blake put his box down; I sensed his confidence and sureness was at maximum level whilst in turn enhance his performance. I wasn’t worried, in fact I was excited.
After 15 minutes of exchanging powerful combos, special moves and other various attacks. I came out victor once again with the added bonus that my health gauge had 92% remaining. I turned to my head to face a rather envious and annoyed Blake. “I’m useless at this game.” No ur not.” I replied try to comfort him. “You, just need more practice.” “I don’t know, I mean u hardly had any practice an d you play like a professional.” I stopped. I could feel the sorrow and anger flowing through him. I couldn’t tell him I’m a psion though- that i can manipulate certain energies to my will like light, electricity and air. He would probably think I’m weird, that I’ve got a mental issue. I would be treated like a outside. An imposter. Most of my friends would desert me. I would be considered a threat if i proved them wrong using my abilities. Be asked to perform my abilities like they were a routine, a impressive magic performance. I would be a source of judgement/entertainment/conflict upon society. It often outcasts the things they don’t really understand. One person’s opinions can be like an epidemic on society- unleashing the darkness out there. I racked my thoughts to find a suitable response for this comment without breaching my deepest insecurity.
After a while i found a suitable response to say. “That’s because i have played previous games of the series, so I’m familiar with the majority of the moves.” I guess so.” He replied in a depressed tone. Silence tainted the air after that, constricting the happiness and replacing with animosity and melancholy. After a while the minutes passing by felt like hours. I decided to break the silence because it was making me uneasy. “Do u want to play another tournament. I said in a enthusiastic tone. “I guess so.” Blake was really uneasy and disheartened about the previous tournament. Feeling sympathetic for him, I decided to let him win this tournament. As we went through the pre-tournament process once again. Blake chose Scorpion with his pyrokinesis abilities while I kept with Raiden and his electrokinetic abilities. Blake went for the first attack, I blocked it. Letting his strong emotions take over him, he performed a powerful combo I didn’t make it obvious that I was letting him win, so I blocked it at the last minute. My block got bypassed by the strength of his attack- Raiden’s health gauge was now reduced by a quarter. Then he pulled off a special move followed by a shift attack using all three of his fighting styles.
Suddenly I felt my third eye chakra vibrating strongly within my head. All of my body started to tingle immensely. I focused on the sensation through my body trying to minimise the effects. As i tried this, my heart started beating rapidly. I put down the controller on the table while Blake was focused on inflicting as much damage possible upon my character. I began to feel all my chakras vibrating vigorously, all my energy was travelling throughout the inside of my body really quickly. I didn’t know was happening, I tried releasing my energy but failed. I slowly closed my eyes and started visualising the energy and concentrating on it trying to stop it. No effect, I opened my eyes. All of a sudden all of my energy exploded out of my body, surrounding me. I felt so powerful, energetic, confident...I felt unstoppable. I glanced down at my hands they were glowing a bright orange. My body’s core temperature started rising rapidly, I felt the immense heat course throughout my body. I had a slight idea what was happening and if this was so, what’s going to happen next would be extremely dangerous and really destructive. I got up slowly; Blake paused the game and turned around in my direction due to curiosity. “Where are you going, we have only just started the tournament.” “I don’t feel good.” I replied in a worried and really panicked tone. Blake stared in my eyes, he knew I wasn’t joking around and a serious expression struck his face. “What’s wrong.” I couldn’t contain it any longer, all my attempts were useless- I felt all my chakras blazing within me and the heat was strong that it was unbearable. I said in a weak and uneasy tone. “Blake, get as far away from me as you can.” “Why?” He questioned. “JUST DO IT.....” I shouted. I looked at my arms they were glowing a really bright orange. I closed my eyes. I couldn’t hold it any longer, my will had no effect. All my thoughts were just blurred within my mind, all the sounds were just silent whispers.
I screamed as loud as I could. The jaws of darkness engulfed my mind. I felt all the energy explode out as flames. My heart was beating quickly. The heat became really immense but I wasn’t so sensitive to it now. My chakras were all vibrating at a speed I never experienced before. My hearing now grew sharp again...the sound of blazing flames echoed through my mind. I opened my eyes and took a glimpse of reality...
