Site Updates

This article was written by shade000 on 2012-01-25 under Member Pages.

Staff/Members/Mentors,

I cannot help but notice that the site has hit a low point recently-some top members are leaving, an administrator has departed, and most of the articles (no offense) are extraneous at best, SPAM at worst.

I feel it is my duty to try and fix the problems.

So, I have some proposed changes.

1. An Article Moderator. Someone who is on the site many times a day, is active, and capable of reading and fixing each article, and closing down flame wars/spam threads. The mods we have are all well and good, but, no offense, you guys are not moderating the member pages enough-WAY too much BS slips by.

2. An FAQ/Ask the Experts article, placed in the main sidebar. This would eliminate introductions, and trivial questions.

Thanks for reading.

This wouldn't help me as an individual because. there's not much more this site can offer me...... so I don't really mind about two dickheads flaming or spamming eachother..... actually I think the main reason I stick around is because of the constant stupidities that hit the podium..... and I think that's why people refer to me as a troll.... when in the real sense I'm just trying to help....

@Baal: Sorry about your account, by the way...

I knew this would all happen. But that admin told me I was never fired. But I do need a break. Plus I need to create a new account.

I think we should just all be better people and be nice :D
By: UMADBRO - 2012-01-25 19:38:48
Shade, you could probably talk to Gabe about it and he will help you.

I have done it for a while, but it gets very time consuming and I have to schedule it around my college time and other things I do.

It would be a great help. :)

All moderators can edit, deleted, and move articles. New Moderator Position will be open for what you addressed.
By: royhugonigel - 2012-01-25 19:29:54
Well I think that we should just leave the comments to sort themselves out.... lets try that.... lets see if it works...
By: ChaoticMind - 2012-01-25 19:21:43
I think that rather than having mods delete comments, it would be better to allow us to have a kind of Ignore feature on our articles that prevents certain members from commenting. That way, if there is someone who habitually trolls your articles, you can just Ignore, and thus prevent arguments.

Create.... okay... don't lie... you deleted my comments on some article.... isn't I right?

^_______^

Good. I agree 124.6%...so long as the mods arent deleting things that sway against them, I stand for shoving the site back on track :D
By: Srakaina - 2012-01-25 19:10:59
Ok then Shade. If troll arguments are occurring on articles, then Mods will have to take a more assertive stand on cleaning up those confrontations.

If you see missing comments then the users shouldn't complain, we're just doing our job.
By: shade000 - 2012-01-25 19:07:46
I do. I t still pains mee to see troll articles like Zaggys and AMCs left standing. All I can do is watch while the flame wars rage.
By: shade000 - 2012-01-25 19:05:13
No roy, they cnt, thats the problem.
By: Srakaina - 2012-01-25 19:04:41 + 1
Well others post what they believe in and who are we to delete their articles because we don't share the same beliefs? What might be relevant to you can be relevant to others or who believe in this. Not everyone knows what the true truth is or shares the same knowledge. If we were to delete those articles, the publisher would retaliate and call us tyrants for deleting his useful tech or his important question.

There's freedom of speech with consequences so as long as the articles aren't breaking a rule on the website then they are permitted.

As for the stories articles here, unfortunately they obtained over 20 or 30 votes I believe to have that feature added. You ask for things, and we give it a try if the expectations are met, however, then people complain about it. There will always be people for and people against everything we do on the site. Such as the argument about us being terrible Mods, yet people think we're doing great.

Do you see my point of view Shade?
By: royhugonigel - 2012-01-25 19:00:03
Holy fuck.... they can edit?

No wonder AMC2's articles look better than normal.....

good job mods...
By: Tigerhallam - 2012-01-25 18:59:32
I agree, and the mods can message the writers to edit inappropriate posts.
By: shade000 - 2012-01-25 18:58:29 + 1
Yeah. I mean, grammar. That should be a member thing. If you are going to publish, at least make it readable. And comments? Keep it civil, unless you absolutely have to post otherwise. Articles? Keep those pertinent to the metaphysical, thats what this site is for, is it not? Im looking at the sidebar right now, and I can only count three or four articles with info-the rest are irrelevant, or just questions.
By: Srakaina - 2012-01-25 18:54:51
Then again it should be up to the User to edit his or her own articles. That's why there is a "edit article" button. I believe that it's pure laziness and the blame shouldn't be pointed at the Mods. The users have resources, they should put them into good use. There's only so much we can do, and when we do take action, there's backlash against us.
By: Srakaina - 2012-01-25 18:52:56
Yes.
By: shade000 - 2012-01-25 18:52:39
I know Sarah can...privileges must be individual to each mod.
By: Srakaina - 2012-01-25 18:51:04
I believe previously they were able to. I'm not sure about now, or I haven't found that feature yet.
By: shade000 - 2012-01-25 18:48:59
Wait...mods cant edit articles? Wtf.
By: Srakaina - 2012-01-25 18:47:25 + 1
Well not necessarily. I'll let articles go out but I wouldn't allow ones that are just being put out to complain about people or troll the users on the site. If they think it's techniques then they choose to believe what they believe.

I can't control what people believe in, but I can stop articles like:
"DEAR -insert username-, I'm very upset of you because -insert an absurd argument-

Obviously people don;t understand that they should take such personal problem to the Admins or Private message.

Maestro don't speak for me....
By: Themoreawsomeone - 2012-01-25 18:46:30
U mean like this site used to be?
By: royhugonigel - 2012-01-25 18:44:21
This is good for the site btw....

@Srakaina.... you're just a mod... if we had people like you filtering articles we'd get around the "2-3 articles a day" area...
By: Maestro - 2012-01-25 18:41:50
The beginning of the collapse. We are leaving whatsoever.
By: Srakaina - 2012-01-25 18:38:22 + 1
Well, we don't have the power to edit the articles. At least I don't otherwise this problem would be fixed. Even if we did, you have users who would complain about their articles being deleted or edited for the site's benefit. Either way we choose, the Admins and Mods lose.

i agree with both of these. They would reduce spam dramatically in my opinion.
