Shielding: An In-Depth Guide
Okely-doke. Today, I'm going to explain what shielding is, and how to go about shielding. Sit down and relax. as this article is chock-full of healthy, protein-rich content.
What IS Shielding?
Though the majority of psions you meet on the OEC have no plans to harm you, there exist quite a few with rather unpleasant intentions. Without any sort of defense whatsoever, you'll be at the mercy of their assaults. Fortunately for us, we can use our psionic skills to shield us from hostiles. Go ahead and imagine that sense of security you would obtain from shields. However, unless you finish this article, you're going to be stuck imagining.
How Might I Start Shielding?
If you're going to set up intricately programmed walls of defense around yourself, you'll need to know how to create a construct. My guide, starting here, covers pretty much all the bases. A basic shield should meet these requirements:
- Comes between an incoming attack (In this case, I'm just going to blanket incoming energies.) and you.
- Does not allow passge in from outside, unless it is broken.
- Does not restrict the user in any way.
The basic shield is the bubble shield. It's how you supply the minimum to your defenses. It simply meets all the requirements, but doesn't go beyond that. It does just enough to be considered a shield. The bubble shield does nothing more than just sit down in front of the user. It is easily broken, and is simply an expendable. The bubble shield is the best shield that anyone can have. Note how that is struck out? The statement is false. A simple bubble would be made as follows:
- Create a field of energy all around you.
You see?
Some Shields to Try
I won't go in-depth on any of them, but here are some names of shields to try. By the time you'll have read them all, you'll understand why I didn't explain.
- Mirror Shield
- ESP Shield
- Depatternizer shield
- Cloaking Shield
- Particle Shield
- Bio-Shield
- Alerting Shield
FOOLED YOU.... I WILL explain.
- Mirror - Create a field of energy around you. Imagine it turns into a mirror. However, make sure that you add programming so your energy can go out of it, so it doesn't backfire.
- Cloaking - I recommend you read "Stealth Energy" by shade000.
- Particle Shield- Put up two Bubble Shields. Place two psi balls between them.
- Depatternizer - For our purposes, we'll use the marshmallow shield. Make a field of energy like melted marshmallows. Let the energy fly around, messing up the energy sent at you, breaking the pattern.
- Bio-shield - There is a technique by AzurePhoenix called "Purge thyself!" When the tech finishes, there will be some leftover energy. Let it harden into a shield.
- ESP Shield - Make a field of energy around you. Tell it to blockout mental signals.
- Alerting Shield - A type of barrier that alerts you when a presence crosses its boundaries.
Shield Systems
Just like boolean "if" statements, shields can be nested together. You can organize shields in strategic patterns, and these patterns of organization become known as a shield system. You might adjust your shields systems for the types of situations you think you might be attacked in. One good system for a beginner goes as follows (Outer to Inner):
- Cloaking
- Alerting
- Depatternizer
- Mirror
- Bubble
- ESP
- Bubble
