Portals+Radiation=Ouch

This article was written by shade000 on 2011-11-22 under Questions & Answers Related to Mind Power.

I recently acquired a few ounces of thorium.

Yes, I took safety precautions, and yes, it is perfectly legal!

Now, my question.

I inserted the thorium into a portal I created to move objects physically out of time (a holding pen). Instead of vanishing, there was a powerful release of energy, and the portal collapsed.

Anyone know why this happened?

Thanks.

@jarrodz: A bomb? You have to have enough for critical mass to make a bomb, and I have neither enough-nor the desire to make a bomb. Geez.
@bbdeathspark: Contrary to popular belief, you do not need a license to handle certain radioactive materials. Only highly powerful ones.

And tell me Shade, how much did tthis cost. Where's your liscense to handle these things. Who's your supervisor?

@darkblaze: I never stopped. Science is an ongoing process. I put the thorium in the portal four times, each with the same result. I wanted to be sure it was not a fluke before asking here,

@Neophyte:
Thanks for the info.
I got at a flea market of all places. It isnt charged with too much energy, which is why the vendor is still alive. I suspect it has decayed quite a lot, but I still keep it in a leadlined box, and buried a ways from my house.

I could have gotten it online, but the flea market seemed better.

I originally thought you said you ate thorium and my jaw dropped. Then I realized.

Ok
A.How da hell did you come into possession of thorium?!
B.The portal collapsed because of "feedback," which is to say, the amount of radiation overloaded the portal and caused it close .
By: ohya5 - 2011-11-22 21:42:50
the charged particules may have made the portal unstable
By: sip102 - 2011-11-22 21:41:47
the radiation could have disturbed the portal.
