CHAPTER 10:BAEL

 

 

 

The Archdemon nodded in agreement as the Second Prince(or perhaps Princess,one would say) of Hell—Leviathan –made her offer.

What she suggested...It was wicked.They would crush the Order from the inside.The boy would never make it till the end.It was too risky,and far too cruel, even for him.But a place among the Seven Princes was one hell of an offer to resist—literally.He desrved it,anyway,but the Princes of the Hierarchy of Hell weren't known for their gratitude.Like every other dictator, they thought everyone should obey to them.

Bael was exhausted.For the last 2 years in Hell(which equaled,fortunately for the Princes, 12 earthly seconds), he had to run the Princes' errands—with nothing in return,of course.Well, he could devour the souls of the ones he was supposed to interrogate and assassinate,but it was not enough for him.And now, he had a chance to gain a place among the most fearful and wrathful beings of the Universe.Therefore, denying would be foolish.

Bael flash-stepped into his lab,in a Verse realm,only to find out that there was someone waiting for him there,hiding behind the shadow of his huge,ancient bookcase.Now,time was moving regularly for his body,since Verse and Earth are parallel,so he didn't have much time.He sensed the person rightaway.

“What do you want?”,Bael asked.

“The Invictus Technique.”,spoke Mephistophelis,the King of the Dealer Demons.

“I don't know what you're talking about!”,Bael lied,but, obviously, he wasn't convincing enough.

“Oh, come on now,old friend.Do you really think I can't figure whether you're lying or not?You underestimate me!”

“You'll never have it!It's property of the Seven now!”

“Oh right,I've forgot you've become their little bitch!”

A fireball took shape in Bael's left hand.

“Okay,okay!I have an offer in mind!”

“Well,so do the Big Seven.And whatever you are proposing,it pales in front of the Sevens' offer.”

“You're a fool!I'm not asking you to betray the Seven.You can have your place amongst them!Besides,their offer did not have anything to do with the Invictus tech!Enough with the lies!You can give me a...copy of the Invictus tech,and let them have the original.I can help you with your goal.I'll bind every soul of the Order's Agents to Hell!They won't be able to refuse our commands!”

“Why do you want it so bad?”

“Oh,haven't you read it?”

“Did you really think they'd let me?”

“Well,newsflash:It contains the key to invincibility!”

“Breaking news...”,Bael mocked. “I already knew that!”

“Of course you did...Why didn't you just keep it for yourself?A self-righteous demon?Seriously?”

“It's called fear,Mephistopheles!”

“If you won't give it to me willingly,then I shall have it in any way I must!”

“As you wish!”,he said and immediately attacked Mephistopheles with the fireball in his hand,which had grown much bigger and stronger now.

Mephistopheles didn't know what hit him.The flames engulfed him,but Bael knew this wouldn't last for long.He grabbed his sword,gripped Mephistopheles and teleported them to a large arena-like city.

“Vivathen!I haven't seen this place in while!”,said Mephistopheles who had recovered in the meantime.

“Good,for it will be the last one you will ever see!”,said Bael and he rushed onto him with his Soul-killing sword.

Mephistopheles conjured a sword and deflected the attack.Red flames engulfed his sword.Mephistopheles attacked and Bael quickly dodged it,shooting an orb made out of Dark Energy.Mephistopheles didn't have the time to put up a shield, so he deflected the ball,while he slowed down time.He teleported behind the astonished Bael and cut his—astral—arm .Time went back into place,with Bael screaming.He leeched his opponent's Energy and used it to heal himself,reattaching the arm.

And while Mephistopheles gathered Necromantic Energy in his hands, someone intervened.A bright light cut through the darkness of Vivathen's night,and the shape of a young woman started to form.Bael recognised her.

“Ariel.”,he spoke to the Angel.

“Bael.”,she replied.

“What?You are friends with an Angel?”,Mephistopheles screeched.

“Oh,don't be such a racist!”,he exclaimed. “How kind of you to visit me Ariel.What do I owe the pleasure?”,he continued,ignoring Mephistopheles.

“You too need to stop fighting.”

“Oh what,are you the teacher now?”grinned Mephistopheles.

“Shut up...”,said Bael,kind-of distracted.

“I don't know what you're arguing over,nor do I want to know.But there is a common threat we're facing.”

“Who?”
“Nyx.”

“Last time I checked,she wasn't much of a threat.She was almost dead.”

“She is far from dead.She is more powerful than ever.And she is planning to release her.You know who I m talking about,don't you?”

He indeed knew.Even Mephistopheles's face had paled.

“Now you understand why I stopped the fight”,continued Ariel,breaking the silence. “You too are two of the most powerful forces of the Underworld.You'd destroy each other—for some silly reason ,I persume.Go back to your physical bodies.Gather your strength.You'll need it.Find weapons—the Astral won't do.I fear that if she manages to open the Gate and release her,the Veil might fall.We will have our true forms physically,sure,but that would mean a lot of other bad things though.We have to prevent it at all costs.”

Ariel was right.Both Bael and Mephistopheles knew that.Bael took a while to decide.But it wasn't long until he understood that even the Big Seven weren't strong enough to destroy her.In an instant,he went back into his body,defying the Seven Princes,for the first time in his life.
